What Does this Pelvic Ultrasound test Result Mean?

My recent pelvic ultrasound report states Heterogeneous echotexture, no uterine fibroids identified. The endometrial stripe is thickened in a postmenopausal woman with dysfunctional uterine bleeding measuring 6mm, previously 4mm. No endometrial polyps or masses are identified. Neither ovary could be identified . My doctor is out of the country forv2 weeks and I am anxious to understand these results before he returns. Thank you for your help, Gale

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hello

Thanks for asking a question at HCM

I will be glad to answer for you

The report says you have Endemetrial hypertrophy. Endometrium is the inner layer of uterus, and should not be thicked in post menopausal women.

If it is greater than 5mm, 7% risk of Endometrial cancer in future
If it is less than 5 mm, less than 0.07% chance

So your doctor can scrape it or take a sample to see if no cancer cells are detected.

Don't worry, not highly abnormal, just above the normal range. But, to be screened for sure.

Hope this helps

Best Regards
Dr Chaithanya
